Writing only about marketing clearly doesn’t get me excited. When I started this blog two years ago I had grand plans of using it as a platform to showcase my evolution as a marketing pro. I’d write how-to articles, highlight new ideas and ways of looking at the world of marketing, provide value by helping the uninitiated learn how to do the day-to-day. Can’t say it was the best laid plan, but it was a step in the right direction.
I quickly lost interest in such a narrow view and felt I had so much more to learn before I could truly teach. In that time, I’ve evolved. As a person and as a professional. My own role as a marketer shifted from tactical, to tactical/strategic, and my next adventure will be purely strategic. What I’ve discovered is that I want to live in the world of ideas, creativity, meaningful work, impact and all things good in the world. Those are the things that inspire me, and without inspiration we have nothing.
Business is often the platform we use to express our better selves, to make our impact, to create, lead, and produce meaningful experiences. It’s not always about making money (even if it is for some), but it’s bigger than that. For better or worse business is essential in our daily transactional existence, but it can have a higher purpose, they often solve problems, but businesses can also do good in the world, they can do great things for their employees and their families, they can act responsibly and ethically, they can build trust and community.
With all of that said, I’m going to expand the theme of this blog and reengage in order to speak more about powerful ideas as they relate to business, organizations and most importantly, to people. If you’re reading this, then it’s because I was successful, if not…fill in the blank.
I’d like to learn about what makes a great and fulfilling life full of meaningful work, personal engagement, ethics, prosperity, community, courage and love. Why do we have reason to be hopeful? What’s happening today and where do we think it will go? What’s working in marketing, business, economics, healthcare, technology, society, organizations, education? What makes the times we live in so interesting?
I hope the end result will be a great product, I hope that learning more about great ideas and people will provide me with the same in my own life. I may be relying on great thinkers to begin with, but my sincere hope and belief is that this site will continue to evolve…and so will I
.
